Adeline Abbott

February 18, 1920 — August 9, 2010

Adeline Ella Lottie (Harthun) Abbott, age 90, of Dent, MN, passed to heavenly home on Monday, August 9, 2010, at the Perham Memorial Home after celebrating her 90½ birthday.

Adeline was born February 18, 1920, in rural Dent, MN, the daughter of Herman and Martha (Stender) Harthun. Adeline was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Dora Township and attended School District #129. She married Orton Abbott on January 28,1940, in Mayer, MN. They celebrated 51 years together before his death in 1991. The family moved several times including two trips to Washington state before making their home on Star Lake in MN.

Adeline, a resident of Perham Memorial Home for the last 2 1/2 years, enjoyed her friendships, the wonderful staff, the games, cards, bingo and all the music. She lived at Star Lake for 40 years where she was a homemaker and everyone liked to go to her pantry. It always held delicious goodies that she cooked and baked all from scratch and without recipes. She enjoyed dancing with Orton for many years, playing Smear and Hand & Foot with family and friends. Adeline loved to quilt and made blankets for all the children and grandchildren. Adeline was a kindhearted person, always willing to help someone and always loved the teasing she took. She cooked for duck hunters who came from the cities to hunt at the lakes. After retirement, she moved to Dent. Adeline’s life was her family including her many nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time and having fun with all of them.

Adeline is survived by five children, Beverly (Carl) Modine, Curtis (Rita) Abbott, Marlene (Morris) Martinson, Bernice (Edward) Genoch and Gary (Linda) Abbott; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Sagmo, Detroit Lakes, MN; and Marion Zimmerman, Fergus Falls, MN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Adeline in death are her parents; husband, Orton; four sisters, Helen Donovan, Anna Harthun, Luella Plessel and Olga Hazelwood; six brothers, Earl, Andrew, Paul, Vernon, Herman and George Harthun; and one great grandchild.

Adeline’s family wishes to express their gratitude for your kindness evidenced in thought and deed and for your attendance at this service. Everyone is invited for lunch immediately following the interment. Blessed be the wonderful memories of Adeline.
