Adolph Wendt

October 27, 1912 — October 24, 2006

Adolph E. Wendt, age 93, of Perham, MN, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Perham, MN. Funeral services will be Friday, October 27, 2006, beginning at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church-Corliss, rural Perham, with Reverend Del Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home Chapel, Thursday, October 26, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and one hour prior to services at the church.

Adolph was born October 27, 1912, in Corliss Township, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss. In 1929, they tore down the old church in which Adolph was contracted to help with the new construction. This is where he has been a lifelong member. In 1936 he married Hulda Rosentreter and farmed on the same farm for 66 years. Here they raised three daughters, Darleen Kluge, Carine Meyer, and LaVera Peichel. Hulda died on November 3, 2005. Adolph started out with dairy cows, then in 1959 he sold them and switched to registered Herefords. He raised, at one time, about 132 beef cattle on 300-plus acres. One year, Adolph and son-in-law, James Peichel, farmed 11 area farms along with many summers of haying. In 1968 he bought his first Palomino Saddle Horse named Sandy. The second horse he bought in Motley, MN, a two year old Quarter Horse named Tex Mique. These were his two most faithful cattle horses. With his hat and boots, along with clanging spurs, his love for horses and cattle made him a true cattleman.

Adolph's hobbies included deer hunting, duck hunting, and carpentry work. He also created the doodlebug by what we know today as the skid steer. He built this long before the skid steers were manufactured. A few other of his creations were his drag, the low-boy, and a wooden duck boat with the oar.

Adolph is survived by two daughters, LaVera Peichel, Frazee, MN; and Carine Meyer, Perham, MN; five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Adolph is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hulda; daughter, Darleen Kluge; two brothers, Alfred and Henry; three sisters, Ida Rinas, Freida Baumgart, and Elva Meyer; grandchild Derrick Peichel; and son-in-law, James Peichel.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, is in charge of the arrangements. (218) 346-5175. Online tributes may be posted on www.schoenebergerfuneralhome.com.
