Alf M. Jorgenson, 90, of Perham , MN , died Saturday, August 16, 2008 , at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.


Alf Milton Jorgenson was born March 18, 1918 , in Montevideo , MN , the son of George and Anna Jorgenson. On June 18, 1941 , he was united in marriage to Lillian Kienast in Alexandria , LA. Together they had one son, Eric.



Alf was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Music and vocal performance were an important part of his entire life, even at the nursing home. He followed his grandson, Devin’s, musical career with great interest and special pride. Alf’s service with the US Army’s 34 th “Red Bull” Division from February 1941 to July 1945 was a very significant part of his early life, particularly the North African Campaign from 1942-43. His life work with the Soil Conservation Service in Preston , MN, (1946-58) and in Perham, MN, (1958-73) identified him as a conservationist and steward of the land. Alf’s family values, his pride in and service to his country, as well as his work as a conservationist will be long remembered and appreciated by those who knew him.



Alf is survived by his wife, Lillian, Perham , MN ; son, Eric (Angela) Jorgenson, Lakewood , CO; and grandchild, Devin Jorgenson, Portland , OR .



Preceding Alf in death are his parents; infant son, Aldon Jorgenson; twin sister, Alpha; three sisters, Inger, Valborg, and Agnes; and four brothers, Torphin, George, Scriver, and Russell.



The family prefers memorials to Calvary Lutheran Church or the In Their Own Words Museum, both of Perham , MN .
