Alma Wendt

April 27, 1909 — October 29, 2004

Funeral services for Alma B. Wendt, age 95, of Perham, MN, will be Wednesday, November 3, 2004, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, rural Perham, MN, with Reverend Del Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 2, 2004, as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Alma died Friday, October 29, 2004, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.



Alma was born the daughter of William and Mary (Fresonke) Volkmann, in Casselton, ND, on April 27, 1909. Alma was brought into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism administered on June 13, 1909, at her parents' home. A few years later, in 1912, she moved with her parents to the Corliss Township area. On October 29, 1923, she confessed her faith in her Savior in the Rite of Confirmation at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss, and became a member of the congregation. On September 29, 1926, she was married to Alfred Wendt at St. John's. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Alma and Alfred farmed together in this area until Alfred died in the spring of 1976. In the fall of 1976, Alma moved into the Lenius Apartments in Perham where she lived until she entered the Perham Memorial Nursing Home in February 1994. She remained a resident of the home until her death.



Alma is remembered as a Gold Star Mother, having lost her son, Arlin, in the Korean Conflict. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Mary and Martha Society at St. John's. Alma loved to crochet and, in later years, did Braille work.



Surviving Alma are two sons, Vernon (Donna) Wendt, of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Eldred (Loretta) Wendt, of Perham, MN; ten grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ardelle (Merrill) Krech, of St. Paul, MN; one brother-in-law, Adolph (Hulda) Wendt, of Perham, MN; and sister-in-law, Margaret Volkmann, of New York Mills, MN.



Preceding Alma in death were her parents; her husband, Alfred, in 1976; her son, Arlin, in 1951; four sisters, Erma Kremer, Alice Peters, Clara Burdeski and Luella Burdeski; one brother, Harold Volkmann; one great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.
