Memorial services for Delbert Arthur Hoffman, age 75, of Dent, MN, formerly of Austin, MN, will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, Monday, July 12, 2004, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Jerry Nordick officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Delbert died at the MeritCare Medical Center in Fargo, ND, on July 2, 2004.



Delbert was born June 6, 1929, in Lansing Township, Mower County, MN, just outside of Austin, to A. Delbert and Rose (Anderson) Hoffman. He was the eldest of three brothers. Delbert was christened at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and went through all the parochial schools there, graduating in 1948 from St. Augustine (Pacelli) High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served in the 7th Infantry, 20th Battalion Combat Team, Heavy Mortar Infantry. Delbert was wounded and received the Purple Heart on September 11, 1951. During his service, he also received the Bronze Star. In addition, Delbert received a medal from the Korean Government for his service to them, the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal and three others. He went to Korea as a PFC and came home a Master Sergeant. On August 30, 1952, Delbert married Gail Marguerite Igou, of Austin, MN, who preceded him in death, and to this union two sons, Kerry and Todd, were born. In 1972, Delbert married Jacqueline Ann Hilmer, of Austin, MN, who also preceded him in death. During his working years, Delbert worked at the George A. Hormel Company in Austin and was a helicopter pilot in the Army Reserve based out of St. Paul, MN. He was eventually commissioned as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 47th Viking Infantry Division out of St. Paul and retired after 27 years during the Viet Nam War. Delbert married Jeanne Heisey McAdam, of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Austin, on October 3, 1998. They have resided at Dead Lake, outside of Dent, for 12 years. Delbert loved the lake and its environs. He was the past secretary of the Dead Lake Association, past president of the Sacred Heart Church Council, lifelong member of the VFW and the Elks and, for many years, he was very involved with the Miss Minnesota Pageant.



Surviving Delbert is his wife, Jeanne Marise Hoffman, of Dent, MN; two sons, Kerry Lee (Christine Whitney) of Tucson, AZ and Todd Arthur (Jalene Blanscet), of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Melissa Mathis, Zachary and Jeff Hoffman, all of Tucson, AZ and Nathan Wradislavsky, of Austin, MN; one great-granddaughter, Jade Hoffman, of Tucson, AZ; two brothers, Robert (LaDonna) and Donald (Patricia), of Austin, MN; six step-children, Randy and Terry Hilmer and Sheri Hilmer Robert and Scott and Robb McAdam and Darcy McAdam Potter, the latter three of Des Moines, IA; ten step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter as well as nieces and nephews.



Delbert was an officer and a gentleman and a gentle man. He loved woodworking and made beautiful pieces of furniture for his family including child-size furniture for the great-granddaughters. Delbert was an avid reader. In his younger years, he enjoyed many outdoor sports. Delbert will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
