Dennis Greenwood

March 11, 1940 — August 8, 2007

Dennis J. Greenwood, age 67, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Richville, MN, died Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at his home under the care of Hospice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11, at 11:00 am in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, rural Perham, MN with Father Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will take place in the Richville Village Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN. A one-hour visitation will also be held prior to services at the church.



Dennis Joseph Greenwood was born March 11, 1940, in Perham, MN, the son of Joseph and Louise (Gladback) Greenwood. He was one of five children, raised in Richville, MN, and joined the US Air Force in 1959. Retiring from the Air Force in 1967, he joined the Air National Guard 148th in Duluth, MN, and worked as an aircraft mechanic on several aircraft until 1988 when he retired as a Master Sergeant. Retired at the age of 48, he relocated to Sioux Falls, SD, and on March 9, 1991, he was united in marriage to Ardis Ahlgren in Sioux Falls, SD. During his career in the service, Dennis received many awards and medals including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, and many others. He was a member of the Air Force Association and a twenty-five year member of the American Legion.



Among the many attributes, Dennis was a true humanitarian, a caring friend, a loving husband and father, and an inspiration to his siblings. Dennis enjoyed his life and brought joy to the lives of others through his laughter and generosity. Throughout his life he traveled extensively-often with daughters, and siblings. He lived his life to the fullest never looking back with regret at having missed an opportunity. He touched the lives of many people throughout his life, and he will be greatly missed.



Dennis is survived by his wife, Ardis, Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Tanya (Michael) Livingston, Kyle, TX; and Teresa Greenwood (Kevin Miller), Maple Grove, MN; granddaughter, Kayla Livingston; sisters, Marian (Dave) Johnson, Union Bridge, MD; two brothers, Gerald Greenwood, Richville, MN; and Martin (Kristen) Greenwood, Proctor, MN; and several nieces and nephews.



Preceding Dennis in death are his parents, Joseph and Louise Greenwood; and brother, Louis Greenwood.
