Edward Kern

Edward F. Kern, age 84, of Dent, MN, died Sunday, December 3, 2006. Funeral services will be Friday, December 8, 2006, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, with Father Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will follow in St. John?s Lutheran Cemetery, Dora Township. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 8:00 pm at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, MN, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Ed was born the son of Adam and Emily (Botzet) Kern on April 5, 1922, near Bluegrass, MN. He was a veteran of WW II, serving as Gunner's Mate in the US Navy. On July 1, 1947, Edward was united in marriage to Esther Marweg Guetzko. Together they farmed and raised their family near Dent, MN. Esther died on October 19, 2003.

Ed is survived by his four children, Sharon (Art) Hennig, Dallastown, PA; Michael (Carol) Kern, Dent, MN; Lucinda Wegener, Wahpeton, ND; and Kathryn (Don Jr.) Hanson, Hillsboro, ND; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Clement (Margaret) Kern, Sebeka, MN; and William Kern, Verndale, MN; three sisters, Hildegard Uselman, Wadena, MN; Mary Kern, Verndale, MN; and Deloris (Joseph) Stoltman, Minnetonka, MN.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Esther; infant son, Joseph; his parents; two brothers, Raymond Kern and Robert Kern; and one grandson, Todd Hanson.
