Elmer Rudolph Marweg, age 91, of Perham, MN, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Elder's Home in New York Mills, MN. Memorial services will be Saturday, November 19, 2005, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Lutheran Church, Perham, with Reverend Paul Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Dora Township. There will be a time of visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elmer was born August 28, 1914 in Jasper, MN the son of Henry Matthew and Emelie Catherine (Buthje) Marweg. He was married to Nettie Preston in 1939. Nettie died in 1968. Elmer later married Betty (Hansen) Lura on November 24, 1971 in Glyndon, MN. Elmer farmed in Dead Lake Township from 1939-1971 and worked at a fertilizer plant in Moorhead, MN for five years. He and Betty moved back to Dead Lake in 1976 and Elmer continued to farm, helping his son, Roger, until 1991. In 1993 they moved into Perham. Elmer served on the Ottertail County Fair Board, Perham Hospital Board and was a Dead Lake Busy Beaver 4H leader. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing, making pancakes and was a Twins fan.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Betty, Perham, MN; two sons, Roger (Jean) Marweg, Perham, MN; and Gordon (Alverna) Marweg, Dent, MN; one daughter, Karen (Darold) Eckert, Hoyt Lakes, MN; four stepsons, Orville (Debra) Lura, Sioux City, IA; Jerry (Bonnie) Lura, Miles City, MT; Dale (Cindy) Lura, Fargo, ND; and Dennis (Gayle) Lura, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Erna Marweg, Perham, MN; and Elnora Marweg, Perham, MN; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Esther Kern; grandson, Tim Eckert; and great granddaughter Tiffany Lemon.
