Ernestine M. (Schaffer) Ewals, age 84, of McDonald Lake, Dent, MN, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at home. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 11:00 am, Dent, MN, with Reverend Arlie Sowada officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, from 5:00 ? 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to the funeral service.
Ernestine was born February 5, 1922, in Cando, ND, the daughter of Henry and Antoinette (Schoen) Schaffer. Erny was one of nine children. She graduated from Cando High School and was employed by JC Penny's. She married Norbert "Bill" Ewals on June 5, 1947, in Cando. They then moved to Devils Lake, ND, where she was employed at Gambles. After several moves, they resided in Fargo, ND, where she loved to sing and play piano at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. She devoted all her extra time to working at St.Vincent DePaul. Her love for classical music was her passion. She loved to sew, cook, and garden.
Erny is survived by her husband, Bill; two children, Linda (Pat) Necas, Gilby, ND; and Larry Ewals, Bismarck, ND; three grandchildren, Rachel (Jeremy), Amber, and Billy; a brother, John (Barb) Schaffer, Langdon, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
Erny is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lawrence, Hank, Martin, Ralph, Leo, and Richard; and one sister, Mary Louise.
Erny will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
