Greg G. Gauwitz, 55, Perham , MN , passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes , MN , on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 .

Gregory Gene Gauwitz was born June 13, 1953 , the son of Gene and Caroline Gauwitz in Peoria , IL . With his father in the US Army, Greg and his family spent his early years living anywhere from Fort Bragg to Okinawa . After his dad’s retirement, they moved to Akeley , MN , where he attended high school in Walker , MN . His love of aviation took him to Thief River Falls , MN , for his college education. It was there that he met and married Carla in 1974. After living and working in Rochester and Moorhead , MN , they packed the kids up and moved to the lake where they purchased a resort on Little Pine Lake. Recently, Greg was self employed as a contractor during the summer and snow removal during the winter.

Greg will always be remembered for his love of his family and friends and his passion for hunting, fishing, and shooting. He, along with his Grandpa Gauwitz, his dad, his two brothers and his son, was an Eagle Scout. Greg was the scoutmaster for Troop 321 in Perham for many years. His excellent handiwork, his sense of humor, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand up and down the south shore of Little Pine Lake will be greatly missed.

Greg is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carla; children, Nick (fiancé, Jennifer Senn); and Erin (Andy) Ryding; grandson, Holden; his mother, Caroline Gauwitz Kawell; two brothers, Jeff (Sandy) Gauwitz and Drew (Lisa) Gauwitz; parents-in-law, Curtis and Jacquelyn Benson; brothers-in-law, Neal (Sue) Benson and Kent (Nan) Benson; sister-in-law, Janna (Doug) Kontz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Greg in death are his father, Gene; paternal grandparents, Roy and Edith Gauwitz; maternal grandparents, Wilhelm and Alberta Binder; and step-father, Norman Kawell.
