Illah Snelgrove
February 14, 1919 — November 9, 2005
Illah V. Snelgrove, age 86, of Perham, MN, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 following a courageous battle after a hip fracture. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Perham, MN. Reverend Joseph Herzing will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2005 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham from 4-8 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm and also one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Illah was born February 14, 1919 to Leo and Frances (Knuth) Smith in Little Falls, MN. She attended grade school in Sobieski, MN. Illah was employed in Fergus Falls and Minneapolis. Upon moving to Perham with her family, she purchased the Black and White CafAsh with her father, Leo. This is where she met her husband, James. Illah and Jim were married in Minneapolis on October 6, 1949. They returned to the Snelgrove family farm and there they raised their four children. Jim died on December 30, 1982. Illah continued to reside on the farm until 2000 when she went to live with her daughter, Caryl. Illah loved gardening and her occasional gambling outings and was a renowned baker. She was a member of the St. Henry's Christian Mothers.
Illah is survived by her two daughters, Mary Pousard, Eagan, MN; and Caryl (Thomas) Schepper, Perham, MN; two sons, Francis (Kim) Snelgrove, Fargo, ND; and Richard (Diana) Snelgrove, New York Mills, MN; granddaughter, Erin; grandsons, Tyler, Michael, David, and Adam; and her beloved cat, Peanuts.
Preceding Illah in death are her parents; husband, James; sisters, Evelyn and Eleanor; brothers, Edward and Donald; and two siblings in infancy.
Illah will be greatly missed and thought of daily by all who loved her and we will be forever grateful for the years we were blessed by her presence.
