Irene H. Walter, age 79, of Perham, MN, joined God's House Tuesday, July 31, 2007, surrounded by family and friends at the Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, August 3, 2007, at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, Perham, with Reverend Del Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Irene Helen Mischke was born September 8, 1927, in Perham, MN, the daughter of August and Martha (Schmidt) Mischke. She grew up and attended country schools in both Corliss and Rush Lake Townships. Being both baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss, meant a great deal to her because her grandparents were among the founders. In 1944, Irene lived in Detroit, MI, with her sister, Elsie, and brother-in-law, Lyle, where she worked at a tool and die manufacturing company and a restaurant. On June 25, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to George Conrad Walter also at St. John's Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two daughters, Lorraine and Patty. Through their years, Irene and George farmed a number of places in Corliss Township. She was greatly involved in quilting, Homemakers, Perham Pioneer Festival, and volunteering time for fundraising benefits throughout the community and surrounding areas. Utmost was her well known rug making.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed by husband, George; daughters, Lorraine and John "Jack" Brune, Larimore, ND; Patty (Craig) Walter-Stall, Detroit Lakes, MN; one and only grandchild, Denielle "Deni" Danielson, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister, Mabel (Maurice) Tunby, Baker, MT; sister-in-law, Bunny Mischke, West Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester, Erwin, Raymond, and Roland; infant brothers, John and Martin; sisters, Esther and Elsie; infant sisters, Jaynett and Betty; in-laws, Emil and Augusta Walter; brothers-in-law, Walter Schumn, Lyle Clark, Walter Roe, Richard Persons, and Alfred Walter; sisters-in-law, Mary Mischke, Mabel Mischke, Barb Mischke, Marlene Mischke, Alice Persons, and Anna Richards.
