Irene E. Zacharias, age 82, of Richville, MN, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Fair Oaks Lodge, Wadena, MN, under the care of hospice surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Richville, with Pastor Karl Weber officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Friday, March 14, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Irene was born September 16, 1925, the eldest of seven, to Howard and Beatrice (Larson) McGowan in Oak Valley Township, rural Hewitt, MN. Irene was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richville, MN. On December 22, 1947, Irene married Donald Zacharias. They lived in rural Richville and raised three wonderful sons. Irene worked at the Perham Egg Plant and then Tuffy's until her retirement in 1990.
Irene was an active member of her church, enjoyed fishing, crocheting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She delighted in being teased by her grandchildren, who she knew loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Irene is survived by her three sons and their wives: David and Loretta, Dennis and Mary, and Daniel and Debra; nine grandchildren: Ellen (David) Neale, Joanne, Curtis (Jessica), Rhonda (Wade)Bakke, Joshua (Cassie), Katie, Zac, Zeb, and Jason; eight great-grandchildren: Ohiyesa, C.J., Jacob, Rilee, Sarah, Mason, Landon, and Tate; special family members Jim and Jane Hendrickson and their sons, Rob (Shanna and Ashton), Ryan (Jen), and Ross; three sisters: Lorene (Carl) Kultala, Ardith (George) Altstadt, and Marie Niccum; one brother: Howard (Mary) McGowan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by husband, Donald; parents, Howard and Beatrice McGowan; brother, Bud; infant brother, Darrell; mother and father-in-law, Minnie and Bill Zacharias; and brother-in-law, Arlyn Niccum.
