Joseph Delaney

November 26, 1923 — October 8, 2007

Joseph L. Delaney, age 83, of Perham, MN, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at the Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2007, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing and Father Don Braukmann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 10, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.



Joseph Lawrence Delaney was born at home to Tom and Elizabeth Delaney on November 26, 1923. He has a twin brother, John Delaney of Alexandria, MN. Joe attended elementary school at St. Joe Parochial School in rural Perham and graduated from Perham High School in 1942. He joined the US Navy in March 1945 and served aboard a minesweeper that sailed to Japan during WWII. He served on the occupation force in Japan and received his honorable discharge in May 1946. Joe married Carrie Hendrickx at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler, MN, on October 23, 1946. Joe and Carrie made their home on a farm in Gorman Township near Perham since 1948. There they raised their family of fourteen children.



Joe is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carrie, Perham, MN; fourteen children, Carol (Art) Sazama, Patricia (Leroy) Peichel, Barbara (Larry) Schave, Margaret (James) Riepe, Edward (Sue) Delaney, Debra (Dave) Nebosis, Robert (Brenda) Delaney, Paul (Carol) Delaney, Neil Delaney, Kevin (Arlene) Delaney, Steven Delaney, Susan (Mike) Jones, Dianne Delaney, and Joseph (Sharlene) Delaney; twenty-nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; twin brother, John (Marie) Delaney; other brothers, James (Marie) Delaney and William (Yolande) Delaney; and a sister, Delores (Henry, deceased) Schik.



Preceding Joe in death are his parents.
