Lauren L. Baumgart, age 78, of Perham, MN, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at MeritCare in Fargo, ND. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 2, 2008, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, February 1, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 5:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
Lauren Lloyd Baumgart was born in Perham, MN, on November 6, 1929, to William and Gertrude (Poppe) Baumgart. Lauren joined the US Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at several bases but enjoyed his time at the base in Anchorage, AK, the most. He was married to Grace Bucholz on June 2, 1956, in Perham. Lauren was an over the road truck driver for most of his working life. He enjoyed the places he saw and the people he met. In his spare time, Lauren enjoyed traveling. He took a fishing trip to Alaska with his two sons and grandson, Matthew. In 1998 he went to Alaska with Grace and Joe and Kathy Hemmelgarn. Lauren and Grace made several trips to the west coast together.
Lauren restored a 1949 Dodge Pick-up and he was currently working on a 1956 Ford Pick-up and was a member of the Perham Area Cruisers.
Lauren adored his grandchildren and he enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends.
Lauren is survived by his wife, Grace, Perham, MN; three daughters, Pam (Tim) Lanz, Stillwater, MN; Paula (Robert) Davis, Watertown, SD; and Angela Baumgart, Watertown SD; two sons, Terry (Sharon) Baumgart, Vergas, MN; and David (Jennifer) Baumgart, Willmar, MN; a brother, Gerald (Joanie) Matz; sister and brothers in law, Margaret (Alvin) Mattfeld; Rich (Carol) Bucholz; Gail Bucholz; and Delbert Bauck; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandson and many good friends and extended family.
Preceding Lauren in death are his parents; grandson, Matthew Baumgart; and sister, Geraldine Matz-Bauck.
