Lawrence Guck

Funeral services for Lawrence Stephen Guck, age 78, born the oldest son of George and Clara (Ledermann) Guck, of Perham, MN, will be Saturday, March 20, 2004, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, with Reverend David Rieder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2004, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Lawrence died Monday, March 15, 2004, at the St. Mary's Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Lawrence attended St. Joe's school near Perham and served in the U.S. Army for 11/2 years. On September 28th, 1949, he was married to Mary Ann Sheilds, of Perham. They did various types of farming in the Perham, Butler and Menahga areas primarily raising turkeys. In 1970, Lawrence began working for the U.S Postal Service in Perham. He worked there until his retirement in 1987. Lawrence was very active in the community. He served on the Perham Township board, the Perham Hospital District board and was a charter member of the St. James Manor board. He served as vice-president of the East Otter Tail Historical Society, Grand Knight of 3rd Degree, Council 1773, in Perham and Navigator of the St. Dismas Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus involving the communities of Perham, Wadena and Park Rapids. He was a past commander of the American Legion and an active member of the Perham Area Lakes Lions.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Mary Ann, his four daughters, Kathy (Dick) Martin of Mabank, TX, Jean (Mike) Hendrickx, of Butler, MN, Susan (Craig) Wagner, of Perham, and Rita (Mark) Wagner, of Richville, MN; his seven sons, Mike (Karen), of Vesper, WI, Tom (Karen), of Omaha, NE, Joe (Janice), of Perham, Ken (Pam), of Perham, Alan (Lori), of Annandale, MN, Dave (Deb), of Perham and Jeff Guck, of Perham. Also surviving Lawrence are his 3 sisters, Liz (Dick) Laughlin, of Perham, Bernice Laughlin, of Perham, Odilia (Jack) Riestenberg, of Elizabeth, MN; 5 brothers, Henry (Margaret) Guck, of Zephyrhills, FL, Paul (Sharon) Guck, of Frazee, MN, Ray (Rose) Guck of Perham, Lambert Guck, of Thermopolis, WY, Richard (Sue) Guck, of St. Joseph, MO; 28 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Mary Guck and his brother-in-law Tom Laughlin.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Foundation for Dialysis or St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, MN or the American Cancer Society, Perham Chapter.
