Lawrence M. Ternus, age 88, of Perham, MN, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, at the Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2008, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Father Joe Herzing officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, January 14, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
Lawrence Mathew Ternus was born November 25, 1919, in Humphrey, NE, the son of Frank Ternus and Christina (German) Ternus. On August 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Louise Albers at St. Francis Church in Humphrey. Lawrence and Louise moved to Minnesota in 1951 where they purchased a farm near New York Mills. Lawrence farmed and then began a real-estate business which he ran for 45 years along with being Deputy Registrar. He was also on the Perham Memorial Hospital Board for 17 years, the Ottertail County County Fair Board for 25 years, a charter member of the Elks Wadena Chapter, and a staunch member of the Republican Party. His hobby was working in his shop inventing and building things.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Louise; and his children, Dr. Larry (Barbara) Ternus, Hillsboro, OR; Michael (Dr. Debra Guthman) Ternus, Auburn, CA; Suzanne (Bruce Brandt) Ternus, Columbia Heights, MN; and Kevin (Roxanne) Ternus, Ottertail, MN; a brother, Richard (Erna) Ternus, Humphrey, NE; a sister, Mary Anne Ramaekers, Genoa, NE; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Preceding Lawrence in death are his parents, Frank and Christina Ternus; stepmother, Gertrude Ternus; brothers, William, John, George, Joseph, Arthur, Jerome, and Eugene; sisters, Eleanor, Margaret Mary, and Cecelia.
