Marvin Damlo

Memorial services for Marvin Leo Damlo, age 82, of Perham, MN, will be Monday, September 13, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Terry Grzybowski officiating. Burial will follow in the Bauck Cemetery, rural Perham, MN. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Sunday, September 12, 2004, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Marvin died at the Perham Memorial Hospital, Wednesday, September 8, 2004.



Marvin was born to Christ and Martha (Bachaus) Damlo, on February 27, 1922, in Perham, the youngest of seven children and one step-brother. Marvin was a lifelong resident of the Perham area. In 1944, Marvin entered the United States Army and was assigned to the 182nd Infantry Division. During WWII, he served in the Philippines until

his Honorable Discharge in 1946.



After WWII, Marvin returned home and married Alice Aschnewitz on July 14, 1947. Marvin then started a career in agriculture by driving truck for Star'Hi Feeds in Perham where he eventually became the mill operator. Later, he became the grain buyer for McCabe Elevator. Marvin and Alice decided to go it on their own after a couple of years of working at Fred Flatau's Dairy and purchased their own dairy farm just northeast of Perham.



After retiring from farming in 1989, Marvin became caretaker for the Frazee Rest Area where he became known clear to the west coast by people who traveled through there until 1998 when he retired.



Surviving Marvin is his wife, Alice, of Perham, MN; three sons, David (Donna), of Dent, MN, Alan (Faye), of Perham, MN, and Michael (Gayle), of Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Donna, of Wadena, MN; a brother Walter (Elfrieda), of Detroit Lakes, MN; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.



Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Adelbert, Herbert, and Lambert; one sister, Blondina Fehlaur and a step-brother, Fred Roberts.
