Mayme Joyce (Strand) Johnson, age 93, of Perham, MN, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.
Mayme was born January 2, 1918, in Osnabrock, ND, the daughter of Halvor and Kristine Strand. She received her teachera�(TM)s certificate from Mayville State Teachers College and taught school in Fargo, ND, until getting married to Erwin E. Johnson on July 18, 1944, in Fargo. After her children were born she taught at a country school, District 1536, for 12 years. When that school was consolidated Mayme taught in Wolf Lake and Menahga, MN, until retiring in 1980. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, bird watching, flowers and spending time with her family. Mayme entered the Perham Memorial Nursing Home in November 2003.
Mayme is survived by four children, James (Bonnie) Johnson, Perham, MN; Dorothy (Bruce) Thomas, Lillydale, MN; Kathryn Johnson (Daryl Kowitz), Perham, MN; and Karen (Nathan) Engevik, Roseau, MN; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mayme in death are her parents, Halvor and Kristine; husband, Erwin; ten brothers and sisters; eleven half brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Dana Lehmkuhl.
