Mildred Martin

September 12, 1921 — September 25, 2005

Mildred D. Martin, age 84, of Bethany Home in Centuria, WI, formerly Perham, MN, died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center in St. Croix Falls, WI, after suffering a stroke. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham. Friends and family may begin gathering at 1:00 pm at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.



Milly was born September 12, 1921, the youngest of eight children, to Nels and Marie (Sanvig) Johnson in Chase Lake Township near Jamestown, ND. The family moved to New York Mills, MN, when she was about ten years old. After finishing high school, Milly worked first for the Agricultural Stabilization Center Office in Perham, then at the bank in New York Mills and then the bank in Wadena, MN. She married Walter Martin on March 24, 1951. They farmed in Pine Lake Township, near Perham, until Walter retired in 1975. They then moved to Perham and Milly began another career working in the kitchen at Ebeling's CafAsh. She loved to cook and ride her three wheeled bicycle and was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society, the Perham hospital and St. Paul's Lutheran Church before moving to Centuria.



Milly is survived by two daughters, Mary Martin (Dean Kalmoe), St. Croix Falls, WI; and Karen Martin, Fairbanks, AK; four grandchildren, Megan Kalmoe, Seattle, WA; Ryan Kalmoe, Morris, MN; William Kalmoe, St. Croix Falls, WI; and Molly Kalmoe, St. Croix Falls, WI; two sisters, Ann Anderson, New York Mills, MN; and Marie Oman, Osborn, ID; one brother, Nels Johnson, Jr., Greenbush, MN; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, June 3, 2000; sisters, Myrtle Byram, Agnes Reardon, and Ester Dahle; and a brother, Arthur Johnson.
