Norbert Doll

Norbert E. Doll, age 92, of Perham, MN, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family .


Norbert Edward Doll was born July 31, 1916 , to John L. and Anna K. (Jung) Doll. He was Baptized, made his First Communion, and was Confirmed at St. Lawrence Church. He was the oldest member that was born and raised at St. Lawrence Church, Rush Lake . Norbert attended school at District 128 through the 8 th grade which was located on his parent’s farm.



Norbert joined the Army, August 20, 1941 , where he was a cook. Due to his father having a stroke, Norbert was Honorably Discharged on April 19, 1942 , to come home and take care of the family farm. After his father’s death, Norbert took over the family farm, making him the 4 th generation on the “Doll Farm.” He first farmed with horses and later purchased his first tractor.



Because of winning a flip of the coin, Norbert won the heart of Catherine Berns and on November 15, 1944 , they were married at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham. They were blessed with seven children; three daughters and four sons.



Norbert enjoyed taking old TV cabinets and making them into beautiful dressers. He also enjoyed fishing in the summer with his family, farming (especially being out in the field), driving his John Deere tractor which he was still driving at age 92, and playing card games with his family, especially the grandkids.



Norbert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine, Perham, MN; four sons, Robert Doll, Grant Pass, OR; Gerald “Jerry” (Patricia White) Doll, Newark, DE; Lawrence (Lana) Doll, Eagle Bend, MN; and Roger Doll, Perham, MN; two daughters, Alice Doll, Perham, MN; and Susan (James) Langlie, Dent, MN; a sister, Loretta Buchan, Masaryktown, FL; and a sister-in-law, Reba Doll; ten grandchildren, Pamela Doll, Robert (Tami) Heimark, Adam Doll, Jacob Doll, Stephanie (Matthew Zylstra) Sorensen, Lisa Doll, Samantha Langlie, Jonathan Langlie, David Langlie, and Matthew Langlie; and two great grandchildren, Timothy Doll and Rylee Zylstra.



Preceding Norbert in death are his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Fredolph “Fritz” Heimark; a grandson, Gerald “Jay” Doll Jr.; a granddaughter, Penny Sorenson; two sisters, Barbara Loerzel and Louise Yanke; and six brothers, Raymond, Alois, Arthur, Vincent, Robert, and Christopher.
