Norman Meier

December 20, 1924 — May 15, 2006

Norman Elmer Meier, age 81, of Perham, MN, died on Monday, May 15, 2006, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home, Perham. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 18, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, rural Perham, MN, at 11:00 am with Reverend Del Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 17, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm and also one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.



Norman was born December 20, 1924, the son of Emil and Eliza (Ramsay) Meier, in Corliss Township, rural Perham, MN. On April 19, 1946, Norman was married to Dorothea Bahls at the St. John's Parsonage in Corliss. They farmed together in Butler Township, rural Perham. Dorothea died on April 28, 2003. Norman was a cattle hauler and sold Pioneer Seed. On December 31, 1996, Norman lost his first leg to diabetes and seven months later lost the second one. In 1997 he began living at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home.



Norman is survived by two daughters, Joyce Names, Battle Lake, MN; and Elaine (Jim) Bistrum, Perham, MN; three sons, Duane, Paul, and Glen (Sandy) Meier, all of Perham, MN; three brothers, Raymond (Vera) Meier, Perham, MN; Clarence (Marge) Meier, Bloomington, MN; and Alvin (Jean) Meier, Ottertail, MN; one sister, Dorothy Brown, Minneapolis, MN; eleven grandchildren, JoAnn, Brian, Brenda, David, and Cynthia (Jeff) Names, Denise (Knute) Mursu, Steven (Fay) Bistrum, Chad (Christine) Peterson, Mike (Jennifer) Meier, Jessica (Eric) Olsen, and Connie Meier; three great grandchildren, Natasha Meier, Joshua Meier, and Kaydi Mursu; and many nieces and nephews.



Norman is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea; his parents; a brother, Lester; son-in-law, Delmar Names; and brother-in-law, Robert Brown.
