Norman Meyer

April 15, 1923 — April 8, 2008

Norman Meyer, age 84, of Perham, MN, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2008, beginning at 4:00 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.



Norman was born April 15, 1923, in Evergreen Township, rural Frazee, MN, the son of Albert and Clara (Nelson) Meyer. Norman's family moved to Perham in 1939 when his father established Meyer's Super Station. After graduation in 1941, Norman served in the Army Air Corp. from 1942 to 1946. Norman was baptized, attended, and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham. He remained active in the church holding many positions including chairman and treasurer. He also served on various building committees.



Norman married Phyllis Eileen Smith on February 24, 1946 in Churbusco, Indiana. Norman and Phyllis returned to Perham to work at the family business which he later purchased. Norman loved the town of Perham. He served as director of the Chamber of Commerce and was active in many community organizations.



Norman continued to work in the Perham area until his retirement in 1977. After that, he remained in insurance sales with American Family. Norman loved his family. He was quick with his wit and constantly wore a smile. Norman loved golf and was very good at it. He was good enough to have not only one hole-in-one, but six in his lifetime. He was an active member of Perham Lakeside Golf Course and Sunland Village Golf Course in Mesa, AZ, where Norman and Phyllis spent their winters.



Norman leaves a family who loved him and will miss his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and infectious smile. His surviving family includes his wife, Phyllis, Perham, MN; his son, Donald (Donna), Perham, MN; three grandchildren, Nichole (Travis) Boyd, Glyndon, MN; Brian (Renah) Meyer, Perham, MN; Brooke (Edward) Adamczyk, Perham, MN; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lucie, Molly, Danielle, with a fifth due on Norman's birthday.



Preceding Norman in death are his parents; his brother, Arnold; his daughter, Nancy; and his infant grandson, Nathan.
