Vera Bigler

June 17, 1917 — January 17, 2004

Funeral services for Vera Louise Bigler, age 86, of Perham, MN, will be Thursday,

January 22, 2004, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Perham, with Reverend Roger Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Perham Village Cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is Wednesday, January 21, 2004, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., as well as one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Vera died suddenly, Saturday, January 17, 2004, at United Hospital, St. Paul, MN, after a short illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.



Vera was born June 17, 1917, to Theodore and Mary (Ulrich) Filk, in Hutchinson, MN. She lived in Hutchinson until 1934, after which she attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1938. Vera taught English at Becker High School until her marriage to

Dr. Ivan E. Bigler, December 28, 1939, in Claremore, Oklahoma. After World War II, the couple moved to Perham, where Dr. Ivan established a medical practice with his brother, Dr. Earl Bigler. Dr. Ivan passed away September 11, 1979.



Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Women's Society of Christian Service. For many years, Vera taught Sunday school and high school release classes. She was a volunteer at the Perham Area Public Library for twenty years. Vera enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and playing bridge. She took a keen interest in local and world issues.



Surviving Vera are her children, son, John (Deanna) Bigler, of New Brighton, MN, daughter, Bonnie (William Noel) Bigler, of Lino Lakes, MN; special nephew Jack (Lynn) McNelly, of Monument, CO, and son-in-law, Curtis Hagen, Mesa, AZ. Her daughter, Barbara Hagen died in 1990. She is also survived by four grandchildren, grandson, Bill Bigler and granddaughters, Annalee Habstritt, Beth Nelson and Wendy Steger; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Alison Steger and Grant Nelson.



Preceding Vera in death were her parents; sisters, Bertha and Sarah and brothers, Herb and Ray.



Memorials are preferred to the Perham Area Public Library or the United Methodist Church, both in Perham.
