Virgil Mueller

May 30, 1916 — February 24, 2008

Virgil William "Bud" Mueller, age 91, of Perham, MN, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, at MeritCare, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2008, beginning at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Perham, with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. Burial will follow in St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery, Perham. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.



Virgil W. "Bud" Mueller was born May 30, 1916, in Park Rapids, MN, the son of William and Marta (Josephson) Mueller. He graduated from Park Rapids High School before entering the Army National Guard in 1940. Bud served with the MN National Guard for 13 years. His unit of the National Guard was mobilized in 1940 to the US Army and sent to California. He then served overseas during WWII in Belgium and Germany where his unit met the Russian Army at the Elbe River. He was discharged in 1946. During his service years he had been stationed in Riverside, CA, and that is where Bud and Allene McGrane were united in marriage on July 2, 1944, in the St. Francis DeSalles Catholic Church. Together Bud and Allene had four children. Bud was employed by the Minnesota DNR in various locations, including Brainerd, Bagley, Baudette, and finally Perham where he continued working for the Forestry Service until 1978 when he retired at the age of 62.



Bud is survived by his wife, Allene, Perham, MN; four children, Daniel (Cathy) Mueller, Ottertail, MN; Gregory (Corinne) Mueller, Detroit Lakes, MN; Debra (John) Babcock, Sartell, MN; and Marie (James) Bracey, Winchester, England; sister, Lamae Vaegmast, Greeley, CO; brother, Donald (Margo) Mueller, New Brighton, MN. He was Grandpa Bud to his seven grandchildren, Lynn, David, and Rachel Mueller; Aaron, Andrew, and Anne Babcock; and Chris Donley.



Preceding Bud in death are his parents; and a sister, Ardelle Reynolds.
