William Seifert

William Jacob Seifert, age 100, of Perham, MN, died January 19, 2004, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Friday, January 23, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Perham, with Reverend David Rieder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is Thursday, January 22, 2004, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
William was born March 23, 1903, in Edna Township, the son of John and Elizabeth (Kramer) Seifert, where he grew up on the farm. He attended the Reistenberg Country School through the eighth grade. William left the farm and worked on a Dairy Farm near Chicago, Illinois. He returned and worked on the Nebergall farm, near Perham. On November 4, 1929, William married Elsie Ruther at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Perham. He worked as a custodian for seventeen years at the St. Henry?s Catholic Church and Parochial School. He then worked for a short time with the Otter Tail County Road Department before starting work at the Perham Jobbing Company as a salesperson. He did become part-owner of the company later in his life. William also drove school bus and worked at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, both for many years. His wife, Elsie, died October 28, 1970. William then married Bernice Rose Platt on June 25, 1971.
William was active in the Perham Rotary Club and held numerous offices as a member. He was also the treasurer of the Catholic Aid Association for many years.
Surviving William is one son, Donald (Mary Jane), of Dent, MN and one daughter, Arilda Januszewski (Arvid) Eken, of Perham, MN; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding William in death are his wives, Elsie, 1970 and Bernice, 2003; three brothers, Alex, Walter and Ludwig; six sisters, Ottillia (Ernest) Andreason, Margaret (Raymond) Siebels, Susan (Joseph) Siebels, Bertha (John) Schmitz, Isabell (Frank) Wasche and Hilda, who died as an infant.
