Carol Jean Kratzke, of Vergas, MN died in Perham Living on March 17, 2018. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon followed by the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham, MN.
Carol was born January 29, 1946 in Perham at the St. James Hospital. She grew up on a farm near Vergas and for six years attended country school, District 1455, about a mile from her home. She attended Pelican Rapids School graduating in 1964. Carol continued her education at the University of Minnesota, Morris, graduating with a B.A. degree concentrating on Health and Physical Education. She accepted a teaching position in Cosmos, MN and enjoyed teaching, coaching and mentoring kids K-12 for 31 years. She inspired many students with her strength and determination, as well as with her compassionate approach to helping each become the best he or she could be. Carol loved teaching. She retired in 1999 and moved to Vergas.
Carol also enjoyed many pastimes including crocheting, embroidering, working on her folks’ farm in the summer, shoveling snow, mowing grass, chipping ice, canning, carving, singing, traveling and especially fishing and gardening. She was a generous person and loved to make people smile.
Carol was preceded in death by her dad Butch and her mom Geline. She is survived by her loving sisters Katherine Pfeiffer of Harlingen, TX, Corinne (Greg) Mueller of Detroit Lakes, MN, Connie (Pete) Lindberg of Perham and Jaye (Richard) Hodges of Brownwood, TX; and her best friend Sharon Kolle. Carol also leaves 11 nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, and 19 grandnieces and nephews, all of whom enjoyed her kindness and selflessness. She also leaves aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Carol will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
