Andria “Sue” Marie Kalinoski, age 77, passed away peacefully in Mesa, AZ on April 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones while praying the rosary.
Sue was born on May 3, 1948 to George and Juliette Genereux in Crookston, MN. She graduated from Mentor High School with the Class of 1966. Following graduation, Sue attended vocational school, where she trained to become a beautician.
While in beauty school, she was asked out on a date by Van Kalinoski. That date led to a lifetime of love, and on July 5, 1969, they were married in Terrebonne, MN, celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Sue wore many hats throughout her life: cosmetologist, bank teller, Apachy Wells security worker, and homemaker. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a wonderful friend to many. Her faith as a devoted Catholic carried her through every season of life and remained strong until the very end. She found joy in caring for others, especially through cooking and baking. Her chocolate chip cookies and caramel rolls were favorites among family and friends. Sue cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially watching them laugh and play. She also loved simple moments, like going for walks, sitting on the deck, and taking in the peaceful view of the lake.
Sue had a little book that she filled in, and these were her responses:
Her fondest memory with my family: Doing things together and being proud of them. Loved being around people. My greatest accomplishments: Raising my family, watching them grow and helping them out in life. If I could live my life over again, I would: love to be 21 again, take more interest in learning different skills. I would most like to be remembered for: My caramel rolls and cookies. Doing a lot of baking and giving it away to people. Helping the older people out and care for them.
My fondest childhood memories: Going to a park in Crookston to go on a picnic with all the relatives.
My greatest lesson in life: Respect your name and yourself. Favorite song or music: The Lord’s Prayer and On Eagle’s Wings. Favorite flowers: Roses and carnations Favorite food: Sweets
Favorite color: Blue Hobbies or Interests: Walking, volleyball, and watching pickleball
Individuals who had the greatest impact on my life: Arletta Peterson and Nancy Anderson.
In January, Sue became very ill with pneumonia, and it was discovered that she also had a serious heart condition. Much of the immediate family traveled to Arizona to be with her, fearing it might be their final visit. After several procedures, she began to improve. She spent three weeks in the hospital recovering, followed by six weeks in rehabilitation, where she worked hard to regain strength; learning again how to breathe comfortably, care for herself, and walk.
When she was finally able to return home, her family was overjoyed. However, after a couple of weeks, she began to struggle with her breathing once again. She was taken back to the emergency room, where doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. At first, Sue and her husband did not share that she had been hospitalized, believing it would be a short stay. But her condition worsened, and she was admitted. A few days later, as her oxygen levels declined and one lung became severely compromised, Sue made the decision to begin hospice care. She chose peace and comfort, deciding she did not want to endure further pain or suffering. Within 24 hours of entering hospice, she went home to be with Jesus.
Surviving Sue are her loving husband, Van; children, Vanessa Kalinoski and Bryan Kalinoski (Shianna); grandchildren, Frank Holzheu (Sarah), Ashley Bowe (Noah), and Rebecca Holzheu; great grandchildren, Emilee Bowe, Ledger Bowe, Adaline Bowe, and Josephine Holzheu; siblings, JoAnn Berg, Chuck Genereux (Evy), Francis Genereux (Louise), Stephen Genereux (Barb), Kermit Genereux (Peggy), Robert Genereux, Kathy Gianonatte, Jeffrey Genereux (Donna), Richard Genereux (Teresa), Linette Koralewski (Kevin), Doria Knaack (Les), Gabriel Genereux; sister-in-law, Linnea Genereux; and brother-in-law, Rick Besmahn.
