Barbara Aileen Bowers (Strong), beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, was welcomed into heaven on November 16, 2025. Her devotion to those she loved will be remembered forever.
She was born to Pleasant Arnold and Pansy Rose (Stephens) Strong on October 27, 1937 in Hamburg, Iowa. Barb married Lawrence Arthur Bowers February 17, 1957 at Glendale Presbyterian Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They raised their four children, Ricky, Kathleen, Christopher and David in Council Bluffs, Iowa until moving to their dairy farm in Richville, Minnesota in 1981. Like she did in Iowa, she continued working in banking commuting to Fergus Falls during the week, while also working alongside Larry helping with the dairy farm.
Barb took tremendous pride in caring for her loved ones. Her home was a place of comfort and laughter. Being amused by her granddaughters during Freddy Fender performances while they visited in the summer. Helping her grandkids learn to bottle feed the calves. She tried her best to remember all her grandkids birthdays with a phone call, voicemail “This is grandma”, a card, or in person with one of her memorable decorated cakes. The holidays were warm and we all looked forward to her homemade noodles on Thanksgiving and her bunny cake at Easter. In times of quiet, she passed the time crocheting one of her recognizable colorful afghans and later in life, her sudoku and word search puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Royal, Connie and Charlotte, her sons Ricky and David. She is survived by her husband Lawrence, her son Chris Bowers of Richville, MN, and daughter Kathy (Brian Kadereit) of Willmar, MN, sister Rita (Tim Brennan) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, her grandchildren Shawna, Andi Rose, Keith, Jennifer, David, Jessica, Royal, Dillan, and Emma, and 24 great‑grandchildren who lovingly call her Grandma “Moo.”
Barb's commanding yet loving spirit will be missed by the many family and friends who loved her. May they wrap themselves in one of her afghans and fond memories they were gifted and find comfort.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Burial will take place at Hamburg Cemetery, in Hamburg, IA, on a later date.
