Benedict Lein

Benedict W. “Ben” Lein, age 89, of Perham , MN , died Friday, August 15, 2008 , at the Golden Living Center-Ottertail Lake, Battle Lake , MN .


Benedict “Ben” Woodrow Lein was born August 27, 1918 , the son of Rupert and Margaret (Schmitz) Lein and was raised in the St. Joe area of rural Perham , MN . He was married to Emily Olson on November 22, 1941 , at San Luis Rey de Francia Mission Church near Oceanside , CA. From September 1942 to February 1946, Ben was in the US Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war Ben and Em lived in Perham where he worked at the creamery for many years. He was a dedicated member of VFW Post 4020 participating in various activities and duties. He was a proud veteran of his country, always displaying the American flag. Ben enjoyed fishing and was also an avid bowler.



Ben is survived by his six children, Bob Lein, Motley, MN; Dick (Twila) Lein, Coon Rapids, MN; Dan (Vicki) Lein, Gold Canyon, AZ; Nick (Sandy) Lein, Perham, MN; Lucy Lein, Perham, MN; and Dave (Jean) Lein, Perham, MN; Shirley Lein; twelve grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Vic Lein, Whittier, CA; Joseph Lein, Aurora, CO; and Norbert Lein, Perham, MN; one sister, Beata (Don) Huebsch, Mt. Angel, OR; and many other relatives and friends.



Preceding Ben in death are his parents; wife, Emily; grandson, David Lein; brothers, Robert, Roman, Leonard, William, Jerry, Eddie, and Alex; and sisters, Kundy (Frank Keidel) and Delores (Joe Robertson).
