Carl Franklin Bjelland, age 96, of Perham, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday October 11, 2017 at Prairie View Assisted Living in Perham.
Visitation will be Friday, October 20 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 21 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Perham. Burial will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery near Butler, MN.
Carl was born June 30, 1921 in Wolf Lake Township, the second child of Oscar and Amelia (Pietila) Bjelland. He married Florence Sweere at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler on August 18, 1943.
Carl acquired many trade skills. He grew up on a farm near Wolf Lake, MN and farmed with Florence before moving to Vancouver, WA to be a welder building ships during WWII. He spent most of his career in the dairy industry as a creamery operator in Forest Grove, OR. After returning to Minnesota he worked as a mechanic and carpenter and retired after 16 years from Land-O-Lakes in Perham. Carl enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and playing cards and games with the family.
Surviving Carl are his three sons Ron (Linda) of Perham, Rob (Carol) of Maple Grove, MN and David of Alexandria, MN; one daughter Gloria (Vern) Dockter of Rochester, MN; his grandchildren Garret and Myles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Carl in death were his parents; his wife Florence; and his two sisters Norma Novak-Glum and Marie Burnett.
