October 28, 1929 — February 11, 2016

Carrie LaVonne Johnson, age 86 of Perham, MN was called home to be with her Savior on February 11, 2016 at Bethany Home in Alexandria, MN. Carrie was born on October 28, 1929 in Henning, MN, the daughter of Lee and Libbie Parker. She graduated from high school in Henning, attended Teacher Training in Fergus Falls, and attended college at Moorhead State University. She made her home in Perham with her husband, Ervin Henry Johnson, whom she married on August 5, 1951.

Growing up, Carrie enjoyed showing the Parker jersey cattle throughout MN at many county fairs. She and Ervin loved spending time with friends bowling in Perham. Carrie lived in the place that she enjoyed and loved from the time she moved out on the farm near Perham. She enjoyed life in the country and valued her family, especially being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved nature, being in the outdoors, feeding the birds and birdwatching. She valued the spirit of competition and cheering on the underdog. She loved sports, especially watching the Minnesota Twins.

As a school teacher for over 40 years, she taught her students to be honest and respectful, to do their best to make the world a better place and to be willing to take risks and make mistakes. She enjoyed being involved in activities at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham. She was a strong, independent lady; a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Preceding Carrie in death were her parents; her husband, Ervin; her brother, Ervin (Shorty) Parker; and her sisters, Fran Sieling and Glady Olson.

Surviving Carrie are her sister-in-law, Alice Fankhanel of Perham, MN; her 5 children, Connie (Dave) Hovendick of Devils Lake, ND; Karen Johnson of Rosemount, MN; Randy (Deb) Johnson of Alexandria, MN; Jeff Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Jody Johnson of Alexandria, MN. Also surviving Carrie are 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Schoeneberger Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham. Interment will be held at Gorman Lutheran Cemetery near Perham.
