Catherine was born at St. James Hospital in Perham on November 2, 1939, the daughter of Theodore and Marie (Boogaard) Van Erp. After graduating from New York Mills High School in 1958, Catherine worked at the hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN before working at Ringer’s in Staples, MN where she made coats. On May 1, 1968, Catherine was united in marriage to Albert John Lachowitzer at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler, MN. Together they made their home in Perham while raising their children. While being a homemaker, Catherine worked in the St. Henry’s School lunchroom and also at Bretz Hardware until her retirement.
Many would say that Catherine was a very avid sports fan as she would track and document NFL game scores every weekend. The Minnesota Twins and Vikings were her favorite teams to watch. Catherine and her family enjoyed taking peaceful Sunday drives in the country where she would tend to take her time slowly enjoying a small Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream cone. Catherine also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, board games, and card games with her family, and later in life, word searches.
Preceding Catherine in death were her parents; her husband Albert in 2006; her sister Johanna; brother-in-law Norbert Lachowitzer; and brother and sister-in-law Chester and Mary Dulski.
Surviving Catherine are her daughters Marie Lachowitzer of Perham and Clara (Brian) Huelsnitz of Coon Rapids, MN; her grandchildren Brad (Marina) Hue, Jessie (Shawna) Huelsnitz, Caitlyn Huelsnitz, Molly Huelsnitz, Connor Huelsnitz, Logan Huelsnitz, and Jaxson Huelsnitz; great-grandchildren Keaton and Delilah; her brother Peter (Margaret) Van Erp of Battle Lake, MN; her sister Mary Ann (Francis) Seifert of Perham; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
