Cecil Kimball

Cecil L. “Lorne” Kimball, age 77, of Perham , MN , died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 , at the Elder’s Home in New York Mills, MN.


Cecil was born September 8, 1932 , in Rock Glen, Saskatchewan , Canada , the son of Cecil Earl and Evelyn (Stearns) Kimball. In the late 1930’s, Cecil’s family moved to Butler, MN, where they farmed for a short time before moving north of Perham, MN, where his father purchased a different farm. Cecil grew up milking cows on the farm. He graduated from Perham High School in 1950 and then enlisted in the US Navy where he was a 1 ^st Class Petty Officer while serving his time on the USS Defiance during the Korean War. In January 1957, Cecil received a call from his father to come home and work on the farm so he decided to leave the Navy. After returning home, he bought 120 acres of land and started farming hogs while helping his father milk cows. His heart was in farming which he enjoyed very much. In 1972, Cecil was united in marriage to Katherine Ihlenfeld of Fargo , ND , and together they had two children; Evan and Earl.



Cecil is survived by his wife, Katherine; and two sons, Evan Kimball and Earl Kimball, both of Perham , MN .



Preceding Cecil in death are his parents; and a brother, Milton.
