Dean Mellgren

Dean D. Mellgren, 85, of Murdock MN, passed away quietly on July 27th 2023, at his daughters' home, surrounded by his children and family.

There will be a small graveside gathering of family at West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Sunburg, MN, on Saturday, August 26th, 2023 with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Swift Falls County Park in Benson at 12:30 p.m. for family and friends.

Dean was born to Oscar and Lillian Mellgren on July 17, 1938 in Louriston Township, Chippewa County, MN.

He went to school at Frank Lake Country School in Swift County. He was married to his partner in life of 56 years, Karen (Quale) Mellgren, on July 8th, 1961 at West Norway Lutheran Church in Sunburg, MN. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Army from 1957-1963.

He lived on his farm in Hayes Township with a love for farming and the outdoors. He was always looking for stuff to keep and was addicted to stuff until the end. Spent his life fixing and making things for himself and others. He was a jack of all trades, taking on many projects like painting signs, farming, teaching, woodworking, metal fabrication, manager, business man and much more. He was a family man and good neighbor, responding to any situation with jokes, wisdom and a solution.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers, four sisters, and a great granddaughter. He is survived by his three children, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a twin brother; one sister; and many other family and friends.
