Deitra "DeeDee" Smith

Deitra “DeeDee” Smith, age 55 of Perham, MN died unexpectedly Monday, July 17, 2017 surrounded by all her loved ones at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 23 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will resume on Monday, July 24 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Perham. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Perham.

DeeDee was born September 27, 1961 in Eau Claire, WI the daughter of Donald and Dixie (Crabtree) Aitken. In 1967 she and her family moved to Vergas, MN. DeeDee graduated Perham High School in 1980 and went on to attend Detroit Lakes Technical School where she studied fashion and sales. On June 26, 1982 DeeDee wed her high school sweetheart Stephen Smith at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Courtney, Cassandra and Katrina Smith.

DeeDee fulfilled her days working and serving great customers, devoting 10 years with Dean’s Country Market before moving on to Hanson’s Plumbing and Heating. While working with this family company for 22 years she managed to touch so many lives. DeeDee enjoyed all the Vergas festivities and memories that came along with the job.

Besides her career and working odd jobs through the years, DeeDee was a woman of faith and an avid churchgoer. Among devoting her time to the community and her family, DeeDee enjoyed spending time outdoors such as running 5Ks, going on bike rides and days spent at the lake. She had a love for reading and baking with all her girls, especially at Christmas time. DeeDee took pleasure in bringing joy to all her friends and family and spending her days spoiling her grandbabies. As well as impacting and being an inspiration for so many people, DeeDee lived her life to the fullest doing and making as many memories as possible. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Preceding DeeDee in death were her parents.

Surviving DeeDee is her loving husband Stephen Smith; her three daughters Courtney (Brett) Smith, Cassandra (Shane) Smith and Katrina (Alicia) Smith; her three grandchildren Rhowan, Eli and Tanner; and her brothers Don Dray (Brenda) Aitken, Derek (Ann) Aitken and Darryn (Frankie) Aitken.
