Delores "Dede" (Perala) Menze departed this life on August 5, 2016 to go and spend eternity with her beloved husband Orlend (Orlie). They were married November 25, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ottertail, MN. They lived on their family farm located in rural Otto Township. To this union 11 children were born, nine who survive her. She was born May 26, 1925 in New York Mills to W.J. and Lempi Perala. Dede was baptized and confirmed in the New York Mills Apostolic Church. She went to Country School District 284 and graduated in 1943 from New York Mills High School with a beauty school scholarship to DeGuiles Beauty Academy in Minneapolis, MN; graduating in 1944.
Dede worked in beauty shops in Duluth, Detroit Lakes, Perham and New York Mills. She owned and operated salons in Perham, New York Mills and in her Ottertail home the "Country Beauty Shoppe. Dede retired in 1992 from teaching Cosmetology for 25 years at Wadena Area Technical Institute. She was an active 4-H leader for numerous years.
In addition to praying, her passions were: her family, traveling, flowers, "beauty" (Cosmetology), and teaching. She loved color, laughter, and visiting. She was an encourager and dreamer. Dede was much loved and greatly admired.
Left to morn her passing away are her children: Dianne Menze, Dale (Linda) Menze, Lynnette (Dennis) Henderson, Karen (Henry) Weber, Pamela (Paul) Rosen, Glen (Grace) Menze, (Lori) Menze, Wade Menze, Twila (Gilles) Despraires, Fay (Tad) Pary. Sister: Lorraine Olsen, Brother: Paul (Sandy) Perala. In-laws: Verna Johnson, Shirley Simmonds, Larry (Kathy) Menze, Audrey Perala, Berverly Perala, and Lois Perala. Along with many in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, a large number of relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death: Husband: Orlend Menze. Children: Brian Menze and Baby Menze. Grandchildren: Denise Henderson, Jessica Henderson, and Adam Menze. Parents: W.J. Perala and Lempi Perala. Brothers Floyd Perala, Jim Perala, Jack Perala, and Jess Perala.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church near Ottertail. Visitation will resume on Monday, August 15 beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Karl Weber will officiate. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Celebrate Dede's life by wearing brightly colored or flowered clothing to the services.
