Donald Schaap

Donald H. “Scooper” Schaap, 81, of Ottertail, MN, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at MeritCare, Fargo, ND . Donald was born January 31, 1928 , in Pipestone, MN, the son of Rokus and Marie (Heecsh) Schaap. He attended school in Pipestone for grade school and high school. After graduating high school in 1948, he enlisted into the US Marine Corps. Once discharged from the Marines, he enrolled in the ND State School of Science. Upon graduation from college, Donald joined the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department. In 1955 he met his future wife, Janis Trovatten and on October 8, 1955 , they were married. They were together for 53 years and during that time were blessed with three children.


Don was highly regarded for his spirit, kindness, generosity, and dedication to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.



Don is survived by his wife, Janis; two children, Peter and Judy; and two grandchildren, Megan and Jason.



Preceding Don in death are his parents; and a daughter, Nancy Schaap Forbes.
