Eldred E. Ellenberg

February 20, 1939 — April 5, 2023

Eldred Ernest Ellenberg was born February 20th, 1939, in Perham, Minnesota to Fred and Alvina (Bahls) Ellenberg.

Highlights of Eldred’s 84 years began on the Ellenberg family farm, where he lived and farmed a majority of his life. He graduated from the Perham High School class of 1957, followed with a marriage to Alice Quittschreiber in 1960, and the birth of five children; Kim, Karen, Leland (Bud), Kristine, and Kelly. Eldred displayed dedication as a steward to his community on the East Otter Tail Association of Township Officers for 30 years as a director and 14 years as Chairman, 32 years as the Gorman Township Supervisor and Chair, and 30+ years as an Elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Smiles and laughter were enjoyed by many as Eldred was often playing practical jokes on family, friends, and the staff at the Vergas Assisted Living where he lived the last years. He had quite the talent of baking and creating delicious desserts. The most memorable of the desserts was of course the homemade ice cream. Does homemade ice cream keep in the freezer for long? We never found out. He should have used the Amazon Subscribe and Save, as there was never a shortage of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Cadbury Eggs (specifically the fudge and caramel kind) for anyone when stopping by to visit. Eldred’s impeccable memory served as the family and friend encyclopedia: full of birth dates - including birth weights, weddings, names, and family trees - and an abundance of stories, of his younger days and family.

God gave you life, and on Wednesday, April 5th of 2023 you had to give it back. Now, you are resting amongst your daughter, Karen; as well as your mother, father, brother (George), sister (Delores), and her husband Cal Mayfield as Jesus’ sheep.

Eldred is survived by his children Kim (Randy) Brovold, Leland “Bud” (Julie) Ellenberg, Kristine (Doug) Lange, and Kelly Ellenberg; 12 grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher, Hayley, Devin, Gina, Luke, Jed, Jada, Sadie, Tanner, Sophie, and Adam; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Polka will forever be playing in our minds when thinking of you,
Remembering the strength and love of Jesus when we are blue,
For His guidance and calming matters most of all,
Remember I love you and know you’re here when the teardrops fall.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith. The prize that shows I have God’s approval is now waiting for me. The Lord, who is a fair judge, will give me that prize on that day. He will give it not only to me but also to everyone who is eagerly waiting for him to come again.”
