Elmer Fresonke

December 31, 1928 — November 21, 2013

Elmer Adolph Fresonke passed away on November 21, 2013 at Prairie View Assisted Living in Perham. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 beginning at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Perham with Pastor Carl Noble officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Schoeneberger Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Elmer was born December 31, 1928 to William and Helena (Diederichs) Fresonke at St. James Hospital in Perham. He attended school at District 164. He did some carpenter work before entering the army in 1951. He served state side and in Germany during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in March of 1953. Elmer was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4020.

On April 22, 1953 he married Darlene Ardis Illg of Frazee. They lived in Dent where Elmer worked for Keith Garber until 1956 when he went to work for Land O' Lakes Drying Plant in Perham. They then moved to Perham where Darlene still lives today. He also worked for the railroad in the summer when he was laid off from Land O' Lakes. He retired from Land O' Lakes in 1991 after 35 years of service.

Elmer spent his retirement gardening, making crafts, and having a used shop in the summer. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing, traveling, collecting toy horses and tractors, watching baseball and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; three sons, Richard (Sue), Robert, and Paul (Kathy); his three grandchildren, Mark, Patty (Zach) and Timothy (Maggie); brother, Alfred (Georgene) Fresonke; sisters-in-law, Avis Fresonke, Betty Olson, Helen (Ben) Nelson and Joyce (Richard) Severson; step-grandchildren, Mark, Lisa, Brent, Greg and Chad; eleven step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding Elmer in death were his mother and father, William and Helena; infant brother, Henry; brother, Ervin; sister, Johanna; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Henry Rethwisch; brothers-in-law, LuVerne (Tiny) Illg, Robert (Sonny) Illg, Denny Olson and Eddy Stephenson; and nephew, Perry Olson.

Elmer will be deeply missed by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. A special thank you to his caregivers and extended family at Prairie View Assistant Living.
