Elsie Martin

Elsie Martin was born December 14, 1923 and died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 94. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham. Pastor Del Stohs will officiate and Andrea Greiff will be the accompanist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Elsie’s parents were the late Emil and Amalia (Steeke) Matz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, rural Perham. On June 22, 1943, Elsie was united in marriage to Roy Martin. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters. Roy and Elsie lived on the farm until retiring in 1981. Together they enjoyed many years of baseball, bowling, golfing and horseshoes. They also enjoyed traveling. Elsie will be remembered as an amazing seamstress who kept her daughters fashion-forward. She also enjoyed baking and flower gardening.

Surviving Elsie are her daughters Bonnie (Bob) Koeneman of Sheridan, WY, Joanne Koeneman of Perham, Nancy (Joel) Poulson of Perham and Cindy (Tom) Becker of New York Mills, MN; her eight grandchildren Tonya, Amy, Jaclyn, Amy, Emily, Molly, Troy and Cory; 18 great-grandchildren; and her sister Emma Rosen of Perham.

Preceding Elsie in death were her parents; her husband Roy; her brother Edwin Matz; and her sisters Esther Schave and Lenora Hartwig.

Elsie will be dearly missed but we await the glorious resurrection!
