Etta Hatten

Etta M. Hatten, age 89 of Perham, Minnesota, died Monday, December 3, 2012 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Services will be held at a later date.

Etta was born on April 4, 1923 in McVille, North Dakota, the daughter of William and Annie (Polis) Ryan. Etta lived in Devils Lake, Starkweather, and Webster, North Dakota, later moving to Spokane, Washington just before World War II. On May 12, 1940 Etta was united in marriage to Maurice P. Hatten. When Maurice entered the Army, Etta came back to Devils Lake to farm and be with her mother. After the war, Etta and Maurice lived in Devils Lake, Lakota, Grafton, and Williston, North Dakota. Their next move was to Grand Forks, North Dakota where Maurice's construction company relocated. The couple then moved to Hallock, Minnesota where their children all graduated high school. Etta spent most of her life in Hallock where she raised her family and owned and operated a restaurant until retirement. After retirement, she moved to Devils Lake to care for the elderly. Three years ago, Etta moved to Perham, Minnesota to be closer to her children. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren will dearly miss her.

Preceding Etta in death are her parents; her husband, Maurice Peace Hatten; sister, Catherine; and son, Richard Maurice Hatten.

Surviving Etta are her children, Edward (Nancy) of Florida, Douglas (Vickie) of Perham, Steve (Jan) of Minneapolis, and Maureen of Perham; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, William (Steph) Ryan; and sisters, Betty Bloomquist, Jeanne (Louie) Moore, and Bev (Ken) Hoveland.
