Eugene Joseph Keil age 76 of Perham, MN passed away Tuesday May 20th, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo ND. Visitation will be on Friday May 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with the funeral following at 6:00 pm at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Eugene "Uff da" Keil was born to Emil & Josephine (Zoeller) Keil on August 23, 1937 in Sheboygan, WI. Gene had 3 sisters, Mary, Connie and Joyce, and two brothers Richard and Jim. Gene lived in Racine, WI through Junior High and then he moved to live with his sister Connie in South Dakota, graduating from Chester High School in 1956.
They moved to a farm by Sedan, MN where he met his wife and love of his life Lavina Jane Westrud. They were united in marriage in Glenwood, MN on September 3rd, 1960 and moved to Morris, MN. In 1964, after a short stay in both Cyrus and Deer Creek, MN, and having 3 children, Gene and Vi decided to make Perham home. During that time Gene graduated from the DHIA program and worked for the MN Breeders Association working with MN dairy farmers to improve herd quality. He worked a short while as a plumber and then started his career as a Carpenter that he retired from in 2000.
Gene loved the outdoors, spending a little time hunting & fishing, building things out of most anything and cutting wood. Yes, a lot of wood cutting, especially in those years before his two sons were able to move out and live on their own. He also loved taking those little drives around the county at least a couple times during the day in his little blue pickup, making sure everyone's projects stayed on task, so not too many things happened without him knowing it. But most of all he loved his family and friends, visited often, but didn't stay long.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lavina; three children, daughter Cheryl (John) Weickert; son Kevin (Priscilla) Keil; son Greg (Missy) Keil; granddaughter Chelsey (Beau) Paju; grandsons Curt (Cassandra) Friedsam, Nick (Katie) Keil, Jeremy (Jodee) Keil, Justin Keil, Tyler Keil & Brandon Keil, Great Granddaughters Alison, ShyAnn, McKenna, Brooke & Olivia.
Gene will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.
