Evelyn Marie Strauch, age 101 years, 9 months and 6 days, of Fergus Falls, MN passed away on September 17, 2013 at Mill Street Residence. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 beginning at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, MN with Father George Michael officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM Tuesday morning at the church before the Mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Evelyn was born on December 11, 1911 in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Bernard and Margaret (Kenney) Finnegan. The family moved to Minnesota and she grew up in the Vergas area.
Evelyn was united in marriage to George J. Strauch Jr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dent, Minnesota on November 24, 1931. They raised their family of 13 (a baker's dozen) on the farm. After the children were all grown and moved away from home, Evelyn needed something to keep her busy being she didn't have to milk cows, garden, can and bake as much as she did before. (She was famous for her homemade cinnamon rolls and peanut bar cake.) She got a job at St. James Home in Perham as a nurse's aide. She worked there for ten years and loved it.
Evelyn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mission Circle and Christian Mothers. She was the oldest member.
Evelyn enjoyed quilting and made quilts for every family member, down to the great-great-grandchildren – Birthright and almost anyone she came in contact with until she was 101. She loved music, garage sales, dancing in the kitchen, and enjoyed celebrating her Irish heritage on St. Patrick's Day.
Evelyn moved to Mill Street Residence assisted living in Fergus Falls in 2001. She loved playing cards and her favorite family game was 3-13. She enjoyed BINGO with the residents. All the staff were so good to her there, she had no problem calling it home. Her mind was sharp as ever and she enjoyed all her visits over the years from family, friends, her 51 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.

Way (Stanley Zupnik) of Cabin John, MD, Mary Susan (Edward) Biggins of Plainfield, IL, Thomas L. Strauch of Newnan, GA, Corrine A. Hayden of Fergus Falls, MN, Priscilla J. (Mark) Hovland of Fergus Falls, MN and Theresa J. Lake (James Rennie) of Fargo, ND.
Preceding Evelyn in death are her parents; her husband, George; her six siblings, Viola, James S.J., twin sisters, Irene and Stella, Cecil and Maurice; her son, James C. Strauch; sons-in-law, Mathias Kenneth Lorang and Bruce D. Lake; her granddaughters, Brenda C. Way and Angela M. Arthur; her grandson, Anthony D. Lake; and great-grandchild, Allison Gebhard.
Evelyn will be dearly missed. She was a very special lady.
