Harlan Wien

Harlan V. Wien, Perham, age 89, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 15, 2013 after a brief stay at Fair Oaks Lodge nursing home in Wadena, MN. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 beginning at 7:00 PM at the Community Alliance Church in Perham. Visitation will be held from 6:30 – 7:00 on Tuesday evening at the church. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 1:00 PM.
Harlan was born in 1924 in Colfax, ND to Oscar and Lillian Wien. He served in the US Army during WWII and met the love of his life while stationed in Munich, Germany. Harlan married Amalia Scherer Rost on May 14, 1947. Together they had five children, and lived in Chicago, IL and El Paso, TX before moving to Bloomington, MN. In 1968, much too soon, Amalia passed away. Harlan never really recovered from the heartbreak and moved to Durango, CO before settling in Perham. He considered himself an inventor, photographer, and writer, publishing his autobiography and marketing "IT - The Incredible Transplanter".
Surviving Harlan are his children, Walter Wien, and his twin sister Anne (Michael) Horstmann, Terry Wien, and his twin sister Teresa (Ted Snyder) Wien, and Craig (Kim) Wien; two sisters, Gloria (Tom) Gruchalla, and Joyce Green; one brother-in-law, Leslie Bahr; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife, Lia; his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Memorials preferred to the Ft. Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad.
