James Haahr 76, of Ottertail, MN, peacefully passed away on September 23 at his lake home. He is survived by two children Travis and Kristin Haahr and three grandchildren Mason, Madison and Emma. James was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Laurel Haahr and his parents Marion and Veirlyn Haahr.
James enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served two tours in Vietnam. He was discharged as a Sergeant with a Purple Heart.
After the service he went into sales selling advertising for TV and Radio Stations. Jim always wanted to work with wood so he went to work for Sammy’s Cabinets. Wood working became a great joy for Jim, working with wood even after he retired.
Jim and Laurel lived on Otter Tail Lake in a home Jim’s parents had built. Jim loved doing yard work and caring for the property, but his biggest joy came when friends and family came down. Taking the kids out on the lake and watching them enjoy the water made Jim and Laurel so happy. When Jim retired they started going to Mesa for the winters and lived at the Resort. There they made many friends. Jim helped with the Wood Shop and also helped with Bingo Night at the Resort.
Since we could not gather for a service when Laurel died, a memorial service for both James and Laurel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service. Lunch and fellowship will follow the service at the funeral home.
