Dent

Jonathan (Jon) Skow, 62, of Dent, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him and a community forever enriched by his life.

Jon was born on October 23, 1963, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, to Martin and Anita Skow. He lived a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and dedication to teaching and helping others.

Jon was a devoted father to Cody Skow and Haley McMillan, father-in-law to Jess and Liam, and grandfather to Joshua, Charlotte and Rosie. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he treasured every moment with them. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Martin and Anita, his brother Phillip, his sister Ellen, and countless extended family members, friends, students, and colleagues.

Jon was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, a foundation that remained with him throughout his life. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1982, where he excelled in football and track and field. He went on to earn his teaching degree from Bemidji State University, beginning a career that would become his life's calling.

For 31 years, Jon taught at Perham High School where he was a patient mentor and guide, believing in the potential of every young person who entered his classroom. He found happiness in teaching practical skills, encouraging hard work, and helping students discover self-confidence. The lessons he taught extended well beyond the classroom - lessons of perseverance, integrity, and pride in a job well done.

Outside the classroom, Jon found joy in nature. Whether hunting, fishing, growing pumpkins, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the woods or the lake, he felt most at home outdoors. He was gifted with his hands, expressing his creativity through woodworking and decoy carving. Music also held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed playing guitar, singing, writing, and sharing himself through words and song.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Jon's legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the projects he built, and the stories he shared. We will miss his gentle spirit, his humor, and the magic of his presence. He will be lovingly remembered always.
