Kathy was born November 18, 1958 in Perham the daughter of Ambrose and June (Ruther) Kaminski. She graduated from Perham High School and later attended Detroit lakes Technical Institute for sign lettering and design. On September 16, 1989, Kathy married Daniel James Bickell at Paradise Resort on Moose Lake near Pennington, MN. Together they had three boys, stepson Jacob, Cyrus and Abraham. Kathy worked for the Perham school district beginning in September 1994. Due to her illness, she retired in February 2015.

Kathy was respected and loved by most anyone who knew her. She was a humble person by nature; she radiated kindness and compassion and never wanted to be in the limelight. During her 18-year battle with cancer, she gave strength and hope to so many people with her determination to continue fighting her illness, never complaining and always looking on the bright side. Dr. Tate, her Oncologist, called Kathy his "poster child" for never giving up her fight. A longtime friend was once quoted as saying about Kathy, "I never heard anyone say bad things about her." Kathy loved books and had a passion for reading, especially reading to her young students. There is no doubt that Kathy enriched the lives of many children while working in the elementary school library. Kathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family always came first and meant everything to her. She unselfishly gave so much of herself to set a good example and be a good provider to them. Kathy had a lot of friends and she always strived to maintain a close relationship with them. They were her sounding board when she needed someone to talk to or she was there when they needed her. Anyone who visited her in her home saw her plants, toured all her flower and vegetable gardens and knew she loved the earth and what it could produce. Kathy enjoyed cooking, canning and wine making with many ingredients coming from the fruits of her labor in her gardens. She loved her home. Kathy had a knack for decorating, putting the right things in just the right place. Every season was different, she was constantly changing things to give them a new fresh look. She loved the outdoors, to fish, to hunt and the food it provided to share with others or for the family table. She especially liked getting together with family, friends and neighbors during the hunting season. No words can express how much we will miss Kathy. Just knowing she is no longer suffering helps with the emptiness we feel without her.

Kathy is survived by her husband Daniel; eldest stepson Jacob (Kelsey); her middle son Cyrus (Allyson) and their son, Kathy's only grandchild Branch; her youngest son Abraham; her three sisters Ginny, Mary, and Lori; and her brother Mike.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Ambrose and June Kaminski.
