Larry I. Schave, age 65, of Perham, MN, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Larry was born on January 1, 1945, in Perham, MN, to Irvin and Esther (Matz) Schave. Larry graduated from Perham High School in 1963 and after high school he enlisted into the United States Army National Guard.
As a young man Larry farmed with his father in Corliss Township until 1970. On July 25, 1969, Larry married Barbara Delaney. After their marriage they settled in on the shore of Little Pine Lake where the two of them started their life of 41 years together.
Larry farmed in partnership with his brother, Dennis, for a few years before starting his own business in Perham. Larry was a familiar face on the streets of Perham as a local businessman where he was the owner/operator of Schave's Electric and later the Sears Catalog store. In 1993 Larry was employed by the Perham-Dent School District where he worked until his retirement in 2007. Larry was currently employed part-time at Palubicki's Tesoro gas/convenience store in Perham, where he enjoyed interacting with other "early birds".
Larry was always an early riser. He loved to spend his mornings watching the day begin with a cup of coffee. Neighbors were used to seeing him grooming his beloved lawn, tending to his many flowers, feeding God's creatures or simply rocking outdoors in the yard. An avid hunter and fisherman, Larry loved nature and the early morning hours. Larry was a familiar site on Little Pine Lake in his boat either fishing or pulling the many tubers who enjoyed rides behind his boat. Neighbors joked that he was wearing out the water. He loved children of all ages, kids just navigated towards him, babies found comfort in his lap, many a child has learned how to fish or hunt under Larry's guidance. He would often brag of the day he taught 7 kids to water ski. Most of all Larry enjoyed making wonderful memories with Barb, their daughter Shari, and his grandchildren. Those many treasured hours will not be forgotten.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barb, Perham, MN; daughter, Shari (Jac) McTaggart, Cando, ND; three grandchildren, Torie, Carrie and Adam McTaggart; sisters, Karen (Buster) Meyer, Perham, MN; and Leane (James) Hewitt, Inver Grove Heights, MN. There are also numerous relatives and friends who knew and loved Larry.
Preceding Larry in death are his parents; and brother, Dennis.
