LaVerne Talaska

September 20, 1931 — February 27, 2013

LaVerne (Dombeck) Talaska, age 81, of Columbus, Indiana died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in Columbus. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 beginning at 1:00 PM at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Perham, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be held in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Perham.

LaVerne was born on September 20, 1931 to Caroline Dombeck. She was raised by Alois and Annie (Walkowski) Sczygiel.

LaVerne was united in marriage to Richard Talaska on July 10, 1961 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Perham. The couple moved to Columbus, Indiana in 1965. She graduated from Perham High School in 1949 and earned a BS and Masters from Indiana University. She taught third grade at Lincoln Elementary for 17 years before retiring in 1990. LaVerne was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, BARTA (Bartholomew Retired Teachers Association), and IRTA (Indiana Retired Teachers Association). She enjoyed working in the yard, reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, and doing various craft projects.

Preceding LaVerne in death are her parents, Alois and Annie Sczygiel; her husband, Richard in 2003; sisters, Monica (Joe) Sazama, Regina (Albert) Sazama, Caroline (Jack) Wall, Deloris (Bill) Swanson, and Deanna Lehman; brothers, John Dombeck, Edwin Sczygiel, and Frank Sczygiel.

Surviving LaVerne is her sister, Catherine (Gordon) Kaatz along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice.
